Jagga (Dara Singh), who leads a life of hard work, simplicity and honesty, also becomes a victim of fate one day. His sister Lajjo (Sarla Chopra)is brutalized by Chaudhary Parbat Singh (Swarn Dada) of the same village. This incident enrages Jagga and he pledges to avengehis sister. Once Jagga delves into a life of crime huge rewards are announced for Jagga's arrest. Jagga devotes his life to the poorand the downtrodden. He would rob the rich and give everything to the needy. 


But Jagga, who was driven away from home, keeps meeting his mother (Mumtaz Begum) and fiancée Nimmo (Indira Billi)on the sly. His love continues to grow for her despite the dangers. 


One day Jagga went with his companions to rob a rich sahukar. At the time when he was about to collect the booty, a young girl called him. In that innocent girl, he found a resemblance of his deceased sister Lajjo. He felt as if his sister Lajjo, wearing Suhag's bangles, was standing in front of him. The marriage of that girl is fixed for the next day. This has a great impact on Jagga’s mind and he leaves all the loot behind and even promises to come for her wedding on the second day. When Jagga reaches her wedding ceremony the next day he meets the bridegroom Pooran Singh’s (Jugal Kishore) father Lala Moti Ram (Brahm Bhardwaj) who was insisting for dowry of twenty thousand rupees in cash before the marriage customs are completed. He takes Moti Ram inside and reveals his identity. He tells Moti Ram to declare that he has received the dowry amount and not to harass his sister in future. He was instrumental in smooth conduct of the marriage ceremonies and left the place after blessing the newly-wed couple.    
Meanwhile the police are distressed for not capturing the out-law Jagga, all the efforts put by them prove futile. The Inspector General of Police (Amar Nath) himself takes over the operation of capturing Jagga and he assigns this job to the young groom Pooran Singh. Finally, the police are able to cast its net around Jagga and his companion, and surround their den one day. Jagga was firing indiscriminately when suddenly his foster sister's husband comes in front of him. There was a strange dilemma in Jagga’s mind whether to kill or get killed. Emotions win the better of him and he does not shoot. In the end Jagga is killed by the police. His fiancée Nimmo, who was about to get married to someone else without her consent ends her life once she comes to know about this. The funerals of the two true lovers take place simultaneously.
